The Woman in the Water is a prequel to the Charles Lenox Mysteries series, of which there are currently 10 books. Going into this, I had previously read the first book in the series, A Beautiful Blue Death, and enjoyed it quite a bit.

When I saw that a prequel was coming out, it made sense to read it before I continued on with the series/5. Women and Water explores how these purity rituals have affected Jewish women across time and place, and shows how their own interpretation of Niddah often conflicted with rabbinic views.
